The Cholla Course at We-Ko-Pa Golf Club, designed by Scott Miller and opened in 2001, is widely regarded as the benchmark for target-style desert golf in the Southwest. Routed through a rugged tract of land shaped by natural desert washes flowing from the nearby McDowell Mountains, Cholla challenges players with dramatic elevation changes as it weaves through shady arroyos and across desert ridges. The layout showcases Miller’s imaginative use of the terrain, moving over 500,000 cubic yards of earth to craft striking holes that blend seamlessly into the Sonoran Desert landscape. Free from homes and roads, Cholla preserves sweeping, unobstructed views of Red Mountain, Four Peaks, and the majestic Superstitions, offering a pure, tranquil golf experience that combines aesthetic beauty with strategic shot-making at every turn.
